Those rigs in the picture are H&P rigs in between Midland and Odessa and there are rigs leaving that yard, every time I drive by another is gone.
I see a lot of comments about people losing stuff (houses, vehicles, etc), not having money to survive a short layoff 6 months or less, etc. If you live a more moderate lifestyle during the booms, you would have a large savings account and the means to cover your bills and living expenses while on unemployment.
My husband is new to the oil fields, but he makes almost twice what he made before (active duty, enlisted marine) and we have saved a good amount since he started working in February and continue to save. We also saved a lot while he was active duty.
I don’t need a giant house, name brand purses and clothes, fancy vehicles (although my van is pretty fancy), manicures, pedicures or my hair done regularly. I guess its just all about priorities.
